Not far from Caserta is Capua, the city of Ancient Rome, whose name is still present in that of the modern city, Santa Maria Capua Vetere. Here is the first amphitheatre of the Roman age, the Old Campanian Amphitheatre, second in size only to the Colosseum. Capua was the city where the gladiator revolt headed by Spartacus took place and the amphitheatre was the first gladiator school founded by Gaius Aurelius Spartacus to prepare the fighters that Rome used to train men in its legion. Today the Campano Amphitheatre is one of the best-preserved archaeological sites in Campania, showing much of its original splendour. 

Even today Spartacus is a source of inspiration against oppression in the world so even the collox Netflix home streaming has made it a very successful TV series. Specifically, Capua was the setting of the Netflix series Spartacus: Blood and Sand offering the ideal background to stage the stories of a group of gladiators who rebel from the arena and give rise to a revolt against the cruelty and insensitivity of Rome.

For this reason, we decided to create an ad hoc tour, in view of the growing demand for the visit to the Campano Amphitheatre. You will also visit the most authentic Gladiator Museum, which shows a reconstruction of a real gladiator fight. He also admires the Mithraean, which is definitely a place not to be missed, because it provides curiosity about the religion that was once the greatest rival of Christianity. It is a real treasure found by chance during the excavations for the construction of a building. The cult of the god Mithras has oriental origins (probably Persian origins) and was almost certainly brought to Rome by prisoners of war, who then became gladiators.
