For a half day island tour, and for some truly amazing scenery, a must is the centre of the island - Pico dos Barcelos, for one of the finest views of Funchal bay, and then to Eira do Serrado which commands a spectacular view over the village of Curral das Freiras.  There are a few more suggested routes for you.  Visit Câmara de Lobos,Cabo Girão and Ribeira Brava or  Cristo Rei, Santa Cruz, Machico and Ponta de São Lourenço.
