Today’s cultural exploration takes us to 18th century Kerta Gosa, otherwise known as the ‘Hall of Justice’. This is a beautifully laid-out attraction, within a moat and it provides an exquisite example of the Klungkung Regency style of painting and architecture which is evident in the impressive ceiling murals.
We then continue to Kusamba, a fisherman’s village that is famed for salt production. Here you will see colourful outrigger boats lined up off the black sandy shoreline. Next, we visit Goa Lawah (Bat Cave) which is home to thousands of these creatures and this is also a holy site.
After lunch we explore Taman Tirta Gangga (Water Palace) which gives an insight into the days of the Balinese Rajahs. Our last stop is at Tenganan, a traditional Balinese village and a stronghold of ancient traditions. Here you can watch the local women weave the famous ‘flaming’ cloth, kamben geringsing, which supposedly has the power of immunize the wearer against evil.
