A "ruelle verte" or google Translate green alley; is an alley renaturalized by local residents, in collaboration with the borough's eco-district.

Alleyways have been repurposed and retrofitted to be enjoyable to walk and live in. Communities use these spaces differently.





The Regroupement des éco-quartiers (REQ) is a network of actors with deep roots throughout the territory of Montreal. The 18 eco-districts, members of the REQ, are at the base of numerous sustainable development, citizen involvement and environmental education projects. Invested in projects ranging from composting to saving drinking water, including urban agriculture and awareness of the emerald ash borer, eco-districts serve 90% of Montreal's population in 15 of the 19 boroughs, i.e. nearly 1.5 million citizens.
