Google has a number of tools that can help you plan your trip and make the most of your time. Here are some steps you can follow to plan a trip using Google Maps, Google Flights, and Google's "Things to do" feature:

  1. Determine your destination and dates of travel. Consider factors such as the weather, cost, and any specific activities or attractions you want to see.

  2. Use Google Maps to get a sense of the layout of your destination. You can search for specific landmarks or neighborhoods, or use the Street View feature to get a feel for what the area looks like.

  3. Use Google Flights to find the best flights to your destination. You can search for flights based on your departure city, destination, and dates of travel. You can also use the "Explore destinations" feature to see a range of options and prices.

  4. Once you've booked your flights, use Google Maps to find accommodations. You can search for hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, or vacation rentals. You can also use the "reviews" and "photos" tabs to get a sense of the quality of the accommodations.

  5. Use the "Things to do" feature in Google Maps to find activities and attractions in your destination. You can search by category (such as "museums," "parks," or "restaurants") or by location. You can also use the "reviews" and "photos" tabs to get a sense of the quality of the attraction.

  6. Use Google Maps to create a customized map of your trip. You can add locations, such as your hotel and the attractions you want to visit, to the map. This will help you visualize your trip and plan your route.

  7. Consider using Google's "My Maps" feature to create a more detailed itinerary of your trip. With "My Maps," you can add layers to your map, such as different colors for different types of activities or a timeline of your daily schedule.

Holiday travel can be expensive, so it's not surprising that many people are looking for ways to save on airfare. To help, the Google Flights team analyzed five years' worth of data to see if any patterns emerged. Here's what they found:

  • Historically, it's been cheaper to fly midweek (Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday) than on the weekend, especially on Sundays. On average, midweek flights have been 12% cheaper than weekend flights. Excluding international destinations, the potential savings jumps to 20%.

  • Taking a layover can also help save money on airfare. On average, nonstop fares have been 20% higher than flights with stops.

  • There isn't much difference in the price of tickets depending on the day of the week you book them. However, if you're booking within a couple of weeks of your trip, it's a good idea to book as soon as possible in case prices go up.

  • For domestic flights in the US, prices have usually been their lowest 21-60 days before departure, with the lowest average prices found 44 days out. However, these patterns may not hold for every route, so it's generally a good idea to book early.

  • For specific holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, prices tend to be lowest 36-74 days before departure for Thanksgiving and 20-88 days before departure for Christmas. For spring break (March/April) and summer vacation (July/August), prices have usually been lowest 23-59 days and 14-44 days before departure, respectively.

  • For international flights from the US to Europe or Mexico/the Caribbean, the best deals have usually been found 129 days before departure for Europe and 37-87 days before departure for Mexico/the Caribbean.

In addition to these tips, Google Flights offers price tracking, fare comparison, and price insights to help users find the best deals on flights.
