Brief history of Kuala Lumpur?

Exploring the Past: A Concise History of the city

Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia and one of the oldest cities in Southeast Asia. It was founded in 1857, when the Malay Chief of Klang, Raja Abdullah, requested permission from the Sultan of Selangor to open a tin mine in the area near the Klang River. The tin mine soon attracted Chinese settlers who set up shops and trading posts in the area. In 1880, the area was made a district and Kuala Lumpur became the district’s capital. Over the next few decades, the city saw rapid growth, becoming Malaysia’s administrative, commercial and financial centre. In the early 20th century, Kuala Lumpur was chosen as the capital of the newly independent Federation of Malaya and in 1963, the city became the capital of the newly formed Malaysia. Since then, Kuala Lumpur has continued to grow and develop into one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic cities.
