Brief history of Jakarta?
Exploring the Past: A Concise History of the city
The city of Jakarta has a long and storied history that dates back to the 4th century CE. It began as a small trading port, which was established by the Hindu Kingdom of Tarumanegara. The area was then taken over by the Hindu-Buddhist Kingdom of Sunda in the 15th century, before being captured by the Dutch East India Company in 1619. The Dutch East India Company then used the port to expand their trade and colonization of the area. The Dutch East India Company was then replaced by the Dutch East Indies government in 1800, and the city was renamed Batavia. The city experienced a period of rapid growth and industrialization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During World War II, the city was occupied by the Japanese and the government was replaced by the Indonesian National Revolution. Since then, Jakarta has become the political, economic, and cultural capital of Indonesia.
