Henderson, Nevada, was founded in 1941 and was named after Senator Charles B. Henderson, who was the former Nevada State Senator who sponsored the bill to create the City of Henderson. The town was initially built to provide housing for the workers of the Basic Magnesium Plant, which was the largest employer in the area at the time. After the plant closed in the 1950s, Henderson went through a period of stagnation, but in the 1980s began to experience rapid population growth and development. By the early 2000s, Henderson had become a major suburb of Las Vegas and is now the second largest city in Nevada.
