Brief history of El Paso?

Exploring the Past: A Concise History of the city

El Paso was first established in 1659 by Spanish explorer Juan de Oñate as a settlement along the Rio Grande river. The settlement was abandoned in 1680, but later re-established in 1709 by Juan María Ponce de León. During the Mexican-American War, El Paso served as an important supply hub for the U.S. military. After the war, El Paso grew rapidly as a trading center, becoming the county seat of El Paso County in 1873. The city experienced a period of rapid growth during the early 20th century, driven by the expansion of the local economy and the arrival of railroad lines. In 1910, El Paso became the first city in Texas to have over 100,000 inhabitants. Today, El Paso is the sixth-largest city in Texas and is home to a vibrant, diverse population.
