Brief history of Anaheim?
Exploring the Past: A Concise History of the city
Anaheim is a city located in Orange County, California. It was founded in 1857 by fifty German-Americans who purchased the land that would become the city from the Spanish Colonial government. The city was originally called "Annaheim" after the nearby Santa Anna River and the German word for "home," but was later changed to "Anaheim" by the post office. In 1876, the town was incorporated and in 1894, Anaheim was officially declared the city of Anaheim. During the 1920s and 1930s, Anaheim saw a boom in its tourist industry, as visitors flocked to the city to visit its famous orange groves and take advantage of its Mediterranean climate. The city's population grew dramatically after World War II, and Anaheim became the home of Disneyland in 1955. In the years since, Anaheim has continued to grow and thrive as a tourist destination, and is now a major hub for business and entertainment in Southern California.
