Go back to the time to when Guadalajara was first founded with this four hour tour of the city lovingly referred to as the Pearl of the West. You'll learn how this area that was originally settled by indigenous peoples in several different villages developed into the beautiful modern city as we know it today. Discover old convents, colonial-style churches and mysterious cemeteries, hidden away in parts of this modern, bustling city where time seems to have stood still. 

 First stop is the magnificent cathedral, one of the oldest buildings in the Americas. Work started in the late 16th century and it features an eclectic mix of Gothic, neoclassical and Palladian styles. The nearby Plaza de Armas offers impressive views of the Cathedral and the Government Palace. It also features a French ironwork bandstand bought by Francophile president Porfirio Diaz. 

 Pass by the impressive Degollado Theatre, considered to be the oldest opera house in Mexico, and the nearby Cabañas Cultural Institute, a Unesco World Heritage Site and home to some splendid frescoes by local artist Jose Clemente Orozco. 

 See some of the city’s splendid colonial-era churches, including the Church of Santa Monica the Temple of St Felipe Neri, and the 18th century Sanctuary of Guadalupe. There are also stops at the Belen Pantheon, an eerie, abandoned cemetery and the Casa de los Perros, now a museum of journalism. The tour ends on an ethnic note with a visit to the Analco district with its rich reminders of the area's indigenous past.
